I'm sure they drew on their own experiences like most authors do, but if I was gonna use my own baggage to write an alcoholic and absent parent then I wouldn't be nearly as charitable as the writers were with Robert. Wiedle, Anna Pan, Tyson Hesse, Ellen Alsop, Evan Palmer, Ego Rodriguez, and many more! Hugo is pretty much a snoozefest for me.

The Sims has always been the obvious standard bearer here, but recent critical hits such as Gone Home, Life is Strange and the experimental titles of , and are pushing in games toward human complexity. Retrieved September 5, 2017. And put a leash on her.

Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator Delayed

The and father to Amanda. He has recently moved across town with his daughter, conveniently moving into a neighborhood of attractive dads. It's also noteworthy that he really wants to be cool in front of the other dads. It turns out to be just poor communication, since Brian isn't really trying to one-up the player. This doesn't affect , however. He mentions to resent him for it, but ultimately, feels sorry for him, after he experienced the joys of being there for his own daughter. Player: At least finally I won't be distracted by Brian's pecs. This may seem like an unusual past event to set in stone, but in Mat's route, the player character's prior musical experience comes in very handy to revitalize Mat's own interest in music. Deconstructed with Amanda's bad end, where the player's overbearing, smothering choices push Amanda away. If the last name is left blank, their last name is McDad. He comments multiple times that he dislikes interacting with people. He mentions one day early in the game that he has already done all his work. He's also this if he pursues the widower dads. Voiced by: Jason Larock Damien is a with a deep love for the Victorian times. He's also an avid gardener, and knows a lot about flowers. Is the father to Lucien, and has quite the loving relationship with him. He's afraid of horror movies and apparently wanted to be a bat when he grew up. Later played with, as he's perfectly aware of the time period's faults and has more to him than his Victorian Gothic schtick. He knows all their names and meanings and is thoroughly a nice man. Subverted, he's quite nice. He's introduced picking a fight at Death, Goth, and Beyond regarding the Victorian-ness of an article of clothing, but later apologizes for it and proves more personable in future interactions. For example, he accepts that Lucien doesn't want to return to therapy, and suggests alternative outlets for his son. Lampshaded by the player character. He later turns out to be an IT employee. Damien will later express regret at the cookout that the player saw him when he wasn't at his best. Voiced by: Nathan Sharp Craig is a fitness fanatic who just so happens to be the old college room-mate of the player character. He's recently divorced, and has shared custody of his three daughters, twins Briar and Hazel, and a baby called River. Even if you give your Dadsona a , Craig will still run circles around you. Several baseball moms express an interest in him, as does a waitress at a diner during his second date. Unfortunately for them, Craig is reluctant to start dating again. He's not very good at being the bad cop though. His Good Ending — where he's making more time for himself but just as comfortable with his kids as before — suggests that the only one who thought he needed to work that hard was, in fact, himself. He's into men and is almost always working out, but it's not out of vanity — instead, it's out of a genuine concern for his family's lifestyle. He always makes sure to spend time with his children too. He even takes River in his jogs, both to spend time with her and build resistance. And this was before he became a health and fitness nut. It's frankly a miracle he's still alive. Amanda is 18 years old. Craig has to be at least 39 or 40. Slightly downplayed, as Craig makes reference to how neither are as young as they used to be, and justified, due to his healthy lifestyle. He manages to perfectly prepare steaks, roasted potatoes and a salad while out camping. Even his fitness smoothies are delicious. The PC and Craig spend an entire semester making up stories about a mysterious third roommate that has a cough that somehow sounds exactly like a dog. The fish somehow survives the trip home. Craig pretended to be interested in joining the police academy for half an hour. Voiced by: The player's next door neighbor and the youth minister for the local church. He's married to Mary and has four kids. She's also an alcoholic and in some routes comes onto you before you even meet Joseph though unlike him, she's never actually cheated. Joseph admits he has faults in his marriage and only stays with her for the children and to look good to the community in his Bad Ending he admits to still being in love with Mary and wanting to stay with her to work it out if you get his better ending though.. Exemplified in his good ending when despite the problems in his marriage he sticks with his family. And their surname is Christiansen. After a , he insists it's for boats. The player and Craig aren't too convinced. However, after you've slept with him, he then says they've decided to stay together, regardless which of his endings you get. Mary even lampshades it, saying that Joseph is good at pretending to be happy. At the end of his route, he won't leave her for you, even if you decide to continue the relationship, due to the kids. He sort of confirms that on his third date. Just look at the names of his wife and kids. His third date takes place on it, and the player learns that it's where he's been living since he and Mary resolved to separate. You achieve it by your third date, not that this is the first time. He's had a one night stand with Robert in the past. Voiced by: Barry Kramer Brian is a very outgoing and competitive man who enjoys fishing and grilling. He adores his daughter, Daisy, and will brag about her accomplishments to anyone who is willing to listen. While he competes with the player character, he's very friendly about it. It causes the player character to resent him until they're able to talk things out on the Ferris Wheel on the third date. During his second date, Brian and the player fall in the water, which leads to Brian taking off his shirt. The player character dad openly admires his body. If Brian beats you, he gives the goldfish to Daisy, but Daisy gives the goldfish to Amanda as a peace offering. Brian is fiercely competitive and loves bragging about his kid's accomplishments. This causes a misunderstanding in Brian's route, because your player character assumes that Brian was deliberately trying to one-up him, and it spirals into a rivalry even though as Brian explains on the third date, he was only bragging about himself and his daughter out of genuine pride, and not to purposely make the player character feel bad. He's prone to making well-meaning comments about the state of his household such as his lawn and his new TV , which triggers the MC's competitive streak. It's not to show excess, however, he's really just a nice guy. Treats the competitions between him and the MC as friendly fun. Given your Dad's obsession with beating Brian, he genuinely wonders if you hate him. By finishing his route, you will also get a image on the gallery of him fishing shirtless. Voiced by: Chris P. Mat is the single father of Carmensita, and is a generally calm guy who likes alternative music and coffee. When his wife got pregnant, they settled down in their favorite town to play music and open a coffee shop. However, she died right before the opening, leading to Mat refusing to play his music in front of people anymore. During the BBQ, he wears a flower crown his daughter made him and has a conversation with Hugo about art history. He's easygoing and relaxed most of the time, but he also reveals himself to be rather socially-awkward and has a crippling case of that has prevented him from taking up his former life as a musician again. He usually realizes he's rambling mid-way through the rant but can't seem to stop himself. He approves if the player makes puns as well. You can actually score points with him by helping him name a banana bread if you make a shout out to a band he likes. They include , and. It's actually immensely hard to keep up with all the band references in his route if you don't know about Alternative rock, because he will refer to several groups throughout it. His former wife's death made it more intense and he's been unable to play as a musician again as a result. In the good ending, he will get over it by presenting a song dedicated to you and going back to presenting himself in Open Mic nights. Voiced by: Robert is a somewhat mysterious and rugged man who keeps to himself. He is often found at the bar in the early hours of the morning. He's estranged from his daughter, who at twenty five, is the oldest out of all the children. He briefly mentions in his third date that he never managed to quit, including after trying even with his wife still alive. His route is based around the pursuit of the 'bad boy' even lampshaded by the marketing, which calls him the 'Bad Dad' , as he's the hard-drinking, leather-jacket-wearing rugged loner among the options. Deconstructed, however, because at the end, despite his mutual attraction with the player character, he admits that he's not in a good enough place to be in a relationship, although it's possible that. As he starts reconnecting with his daughter and starts to ponder on a serious relationship with the player, he is mentioned to start shaving. He's also slept with Joseph in the past. However it appears to be an act, since you can't properly romance him if you do this; he'll only treat you as a piece on the side. However while out on a date, he buys white wine, admitting that he likes the sweet taste, showing that deep down he has a softer side. Both moments establish him as a mysterious guy who doesn't talk much. He's estranged from his daughter and with your encouragement, he'll reconnect with her in hopes of making up for years of neglect. It's clear he cares for her, and is proud of who she is, he just doesn't know how to bridge the gap he created. Can be averted completely in either of his bad routes if the MC sleeps with him or tells him what he 'wants' to hear. He also has a sweet moment with River Cahn in Craig's route, and remarks that it's good for Brian to take Daisy out to the woods at the cookout. After that, most of the time, he'll enjoy if you just stay quiet during dates. And movies, he'll stay through the credits. He'll put emphasis on Mary and how you're an awful person, but Joseph reveals that the two of them slept together shortly after Joseph and his family moved to the cul-de-sac. So Robert isn't any better than the Dadsona, although his friendship with Mary may imply that there's more to this story than meets the eye. He tends to go on long stories, either scary or sad that evoke feelings on the MC, but most of the time they turn out to be just jokes. His profile claims he never leaves home without at least four knives. He's the only dad who's graying, though, probably in an an attempt to downplay this trope. He greatly regrets it. He loves her very much and never meant to hurt her, but he also never knew how to be an attentive father and this only worsened when his wife died. He deeply regrets a lot of the things he has done, which is a recurring theme in his route. Could also double as , after the death of his wife. Not only does his house have state-of-art appliances and expensive furnishings, it's also briefly implied in his third date that he used to live a much more luxurious life and came to the cul-de-sac in an attempt to start a simpler life with his wife. And put a leash on her. Includes drinking wine in the streets, throwing rocks at things, visiting bars and invading a cinema at night through an alley. Voiced by: Hugo is the English teacher at Amanda's school. He's an avid history lover and bookworm. Has a son called. You even invite him to a wrestling match on his third date. Amanda is supportive of this, however. On his third date, he spots his students at a wrestling match, and worries about how they'll treat him should they see him. Depending on the player's choices, this can turn him into a in the eyes of the students. Voiced by: Erika Ishii The teenage daughter. She is smart and quick thinking, has had a knack for photography ever since she was small, and intends to go to art school. It wasn't always like this, but following a falling-out with her best friends, she's been effectively kicked out of her social circle, and left with no other friends. The ending implies it's getting better. She will be particularly this to the kid of the character the player romances, to whom she will indeed become a big sister. It's implied that it gets better by the epilogue, though, as she says she's going out for ice cream with them. When the MC says he'll cope with her going to photography school by getting a dog, she jokingly says she'll stick around for the dog. Amanda: Medium-sized dog, hankerchief around the neck, I get to name it. That's what it'll take to get me to give up on my hopes and dreams. She is seen to be the only one to befriend Daisy. If your first partner was a man, she used to have two dads. In most of the good endings, she'll have both you and her future presumed stepfather. Considering how much her father loves her unconditionally, and how popular she's become among the fanbase, it's very appropriate. On a couple of the routes she plays a more direct role helping you write the letter to Damien, for example. On Brian's route, she does this unintentionally: she and Daisy are both so sick of the competition between you and Brian that they trap the two of you on a Ferris wheel to talk out your differences — leading to you and Brian getting together. Near the end of the game, Amanda finally tells your player character what she's been going through: she had a crush on a boy named Noah, but her childhood friend Emma R. What upsets Amanda is that Amanda's friends kept this a secret behind her back and have effectively cut her out of their friend circle entirely, and for no real reason. Ironically, is among the first to see it. However, unlike Ernest, Lucien does at least attempt to be polite at the barbecue after Damien asks him to, and he mellows out near the end of Damien's route to give you his blessing. He was 20 minutes into the brick-laying process before Ernest caught on. Hazel left and Briar right. Briar and Hazel are Craig's twin daughters, and River is his baby daughter that he periodically carries strapped to his chest. Unfortunately it disappears on Craig's route, prompting a search for it. Hazel to Briar, regarding eating too much ice cream cake : I have your face. No one will ever believe you. Also, Hazel wears her baseball cap backwards, while Briar wears her baseball cap forwards. Craig proudly explains that River is in fact his kid. Briar admits that she has pretended to be Hazel for some school tests, while Hazel reveals that she likes to break things and cause mischief, then claim to be Briar when she's caught again,. Mat's daughter, whom he raises by himself. She's in middle school. She also tries to be helpful in Craig's route when you and Craig are looking for the culprit behind Arnold the stuffed toy's theft. However, in a subversion, Carmensita wants to be a drummer though she decides on the flute during Amanda's graduation party and has a slight rebellious spirit. From left to right; Chris, Christian, and Christie Joseph's four children, whom he raises together with his wife Mary. Chris is their eldest son, Christian and Christie are their male and female twins respectively, and Crish is their toddler. In Craig's route, they even try to cut open River's stuffed toy Arnold. When not purposefully invoking the trope, they're actually fairly normal kids; in Joseph's route, you can actually get them to giggle along with their father if you egg them on and then toss them an obscure reference about. Christie is actually a very nice girl when she's not with her twin brother Christian, as you find out when she watches you and Joseph bake. They all have his coloring, and dress in pink and blue like him. Brian's daughter, whom he is very proud of and frequently brags about. She lets him fish while she and Amanda go to the woods to explore during the second date. Her intellect comes in handy on your third date with Brian, as Daisy does some counting in her head and is able to calculate the moment when your character needs to grab a goldfish off the ride. Hugo's son, who resents his father for being simultaneously a teacher and a father, and thus the ultimate authority figure. In Damien's route, he doesn't recognize Lucien's prank for the reference it was, despite Hugo covering the story in class and, presumably, at home as well, because he refused to even read the short story and just outsourced his reading assignment to Lucien. As a result, he spent twenty minutes in the trap before suspecting that something was wrong, displaying a stunning lack of critical thinking skills as well. I genuinely can't tell if. Most of Ernest's dialogue is very rude in comparison to the other children in the game; while Lucien is also initially rude at the barbecue, Lucien at least makes an effort to be polite when Damien asks him to, but Ernest keeps being rude throughout the barbecue even after Hugo's admonishments. There's also a picture of him with all of the date-able dads on Joseph's yacht, implying that he would hang out regularly with the dads before he and Hugo split and he left the cul-de-sac. As revenge, Lucien recreated the events of the story as a prank, with Ernest in the role of Fortunato. No, he , and bringing it up is a for him. But Ernest threatens to set your trash can on fire if you tell anyone he said something nice to you. Voiced by: Suzy Berhow Robert's daughter. She became estranged from her father, although she wants to try reconnecting with him. This is notable because Amanda, being older than the other kids and teens on the cul-de-sac, is usually the one acting as the cool big sis. Val technically hasn't forgiven Robert's neglect, but she wants to try reconnecting with him for her own sake, as she doesn't want to keep holding a grudge because a grudge would be bad for her own emotional well-being. Voiced by: Erin Schmalfeld Joseph's wife. A seemingly bitter woman who dislikes her husband and suburban life. However, she's never actually cheated- despite the fact that Joseph has. Robert: Well, she does. But if you seem to be good for them, she'll back off you even get a mild speech once you're far enough along in Damien's arc. Turns out this happens a lot. She has never once actually brought a man home, and has never cheated on her husband. She also volunteers at the local shelter, organizes church fundraisers, and is the PTA president. On top of that, she's good friends with Damien and Robert. Is similarly protective of Robert, asking the player character to take good care of him. Attention isn't drawn to her looks, especially since she isn't a date-able character, but she's a good-looking woman who's always wearing a fashionable, dark sweater. The player character's deceased wife or husband depending on the player's choice. Their eyes are cropped out, but they were dark skinned, dark haired, and had a rather nice smile. All we know about them comes from things the player character says. Voiced by: A DJ, Quizmaster, Haunted Tour Guide, and an Aspiring Actor, who acts as an NPC in several routes. He is mentioned to have several more jobs, has a business card and, as we learn in some routes, a rocky relationship with his wife. He also admits that his real name is Richard, but he goes by Quinn for the alliteration. A teen Mat is friends with; he is being raised by a single mother. Since Mat personally understands how difficult single parenthood can be, he tries to help Pablo whenever he can. The player character first meets him as he's selling T-shirts and records. Also, in the epilogue of Mat's route at Amanda's graduation party, Pablo starts selling not only his band's shirts, but also his mom's famous homemade apple butter. A very smart and mischievous mastiff dog. She's capable of opening doors, for one. Adopting her causes Ernest's attitude and relationship with Hugo to improve drastically.

Hugo is pretty much a snoozefest for me. Brian and Craig are pretty flat too. That way, it would've shown off more of the characters. He manages to perfectly prepare steaks, roasted potatoes and a salad while out camping. Voiced by: The player's next door neighbor and the youth minister for the local church.
